  • Essay / Group Membership - 729

As mammals, humans share the same traits as wolves. We feel the need to form packs as an integral part of life. I think this feeling comes from the years of solitary confinement and the lack of people to comfort you in your difficult times. This could be both beneficial and hindering. If you are not accepted into a group, your self-esteem plummets beyond despair and you begin to judge yourself as unworthy. Social status in this world means everything. It is the so-called “friends” who contribute to this bittersweet process. They encourage what should not be encouraged. They promote unpleasant ideas because in return, it was the same for them. The only way to influence is to be influenced. Instead of cultivating your own idea, you accept the opinions of others and make them your belief. Additionally, when something contradicts that belief, you make it your mission to mindlessly defend it while regurgitating what you've been told. It's human nature. Then again, the influence isn't so bad. Sometimes this could prove to be a source of inspiration. What comes from inspiration if not ideas and change? It should also be taken into account that most people have difficulty accepting change because it conflicts with their cognitive way of thinking. This is an idea they are not used to when they prefer to stick with what they know. To find like-minded people, they turn to the unreliable term "friends." Unlike wolves, we do not form groups to hunt. We can find all of our chemically processed foods in our local supermarkets, but we form groups for a less fundamental reason: to fit in and be accepted. But fitting in with the wrong group is an onslaught of regrets that will last a lifetime. This is when the quote...... middle of paper...... are. If it doesn't endanger your life, it really doesn't matter. These people are not special, they are just more self-aware. They don't care as much. Ignorance can be a good thing. The less you know, the less you have to worry. Once you've tasted friendship, it's addictive. It's like it contains its own nicotine blend. This is why there are so many groups. To be a loner, you have to start being a loner. It requires commitment. Your school life will become miserable and the days will seem longer. All this to escape the lie hidden under the term friendship. If you are nice to me, you are nice to others. If truth is cruelty, then kindness must be a lie. Not all lies are bad and the truth is not always cruel. But the majority dominates the minority. It's a reality. A fact that shares the link between friendship and rivalry.
