“Two star-crossed lovers commit suicide” (Prologue Act I Line 6). The themes of Romeo and Juliet are revealed through the relationship between the main characters of the play. The most significant themes developed by Shakespeare during the play are fate, hatred, violence and love. To begin with, fate plays a valuable role in Romeo and Juliet's lives as well as their deaths. Fate is demonstrated when Romeo never receives Friar Laurence's letter. Friar Laurence is frustrated because he tries to warn Romeo that Juliet is not dead: "In the meantime, I write to Romeo that he should not come here, on this terrible night, to help her with the rise from his borrowed grave, given that the time has come. the strength of the potion should cease. But the one who carried my letter, Brother Jean, was detained by accident, and last evening he returned my letter to me. (Act V Scene III Line 246-252). Romeo believes that Juliet is dead because Friar Laurence's fateful explanation never reaches Romeo. Furthermore, fate proves itself again when Romeo decides to commit suicide. Believing Juliet to be dead, Romeo seals his own fate by telling his wife: “To my love! (Drinks.) O true apothecary! Your medications are fast. So, with a kiss, I die. (Act V Scene III Line 119-120). When Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo dead beneath her, then she too decides to commit suicide to find Romeo. Fate plays a role in their deaths, because if Romeo had waited one more minute to drink the poison, he would have discovered that Juliet was still alive. Ultimately, it was fate that led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, the theme of hatred and violence is manifested in the hostility between the Montague and Capulet families throughout...... middle of paper.... ..n in order to see his true love Romeo again . Just before swallowing the sleeping potion, Juliet says a few words: “Romeo, I’m coming!” This is what I drink to you. (Act IV Scene III Line 58). Juliet sacrifices her fears if the potion doesn't work and drinks the potion in Romeo's honor so that they can soon be together again. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet's love for each other is a truly passionate bond that establishes the most well-known theme between the main characters. In conclusion, the relationship between Romeo and Juliet is revealed through the themes of destiny, hatred and violence, and love.
