    The Pettiness of the Rich Exposed in the Stolen Party In Liliana Heker's short story, "The Stolen Party," Senora Ines invited Rosaura to the party for one reason only, to serve. Rosaura was a very intelligent girl at school, but she lacked intelligence with people. Senora Ines told Rosaura that she would be a guest there, but tricked Rosaura into being a helper instead of a guest. Senora Ines needed Rosaura to help her at the party, so she misled Rosaura into believing that her duties were privileges. Senora Ines' deviousness ultimately devastated poor, innocent Rosaura. Rosaura was an intelligent but naive girl. Heker tells us that “she was barely nine years old and one of the best in her class” (1133). But as his mother, Herminia, says: “Go away believing all the nonsense they tell you” (Heker 1133). Rosaura felt like she was Lucinda's equal, but to Madame Inès, she is nothing more than the servant's daughter, another pair of hands. Rosaura wanted a better life than her mother and she thought this could be the first step in that direction. Senora Ines was very secretive in her true intentions....
