  • Essay / Facebook, a useful means of socialization. - 721

In our modern society, friends are always visible thanks to social media like Facebook. Facebook brings people together and creates a surprisingly sophisticated cyber image of a Facebook user. When it comes to social communication, people often use this wonderful medium and have ultimately created a world of virtual friends. Due to its virtual community, people also view this medium as more than nothing, as stated by Niedzviecki, 2011. Additionally, Facebook's large virtual community often engages its particularly young users for an extended period of time. Thus, Facebook is also considered a time-wasting digital tool (King, 2011). However, after operating from February 4, 2004, Facebook attracted approximately 1.1 billion users over its decades of existence (Wilson, 2014). These social communication features have allowed Facebook to quickly gain popularity among its users. Facebook, compared to other electronic communications, allows you to better understand how the situation is going. Keeping up to date by posting photos, statuses and sharing others' feelings, Facebook users enjoy their freedom of communication and friendship. However, unhappiness and fatigue in some are also reported. Some users actually spent more time, as King, 2011 stated: “I was unhappy and felt empty. The time I spent on Facebook had pushed me into an existential crisis.” This satisfaction depends on the nature of the users and how they manipulate the media to achieve their goal. Konnikova, 2013 described two types of Facebook experiences, active and passive. She quoted: "The demands on our attention lead us to use Facebook more passively...... middle of paper ......d Cristian, G. (June 14, 2011). The impact of Facebbok on society.
