However, the PDPC is meant to encapsulate the process needed to solve a problem, such that its higher levels consist of steps to follow. The lower levels consist of the possible problems that could arise in a branch of a diagram, and below the problem level are the possible solutions. PDPC is used to plan a project and for a team to think through possible obstacles before they arise, so that solutions or avoidance strategies can be determined in advance to improve productivity. The PDPC also serves as a roadmap for possible steps to take to resolve a problem. For the PDPC UAS MInD, project milestones were displayed in gold, possible issues were displayed in red, and proposed solutions were displayed in green. . The PDPC is not intended to predict all possible problems; rather, it is used as a brainstorming solution to some of the most common problems that may be encountered. From this exercise, it became clear to us that the key to the success of the project was to introduce a framework capable of not only replicating current manufacturing processes, but which also had to take flexibility into account. Additionally, it was also important that the outcomes of the framework were both achievable and sustainable, as there is nothing to be gained from a solution that meets the performance requirements but fails to meet the economic needs, or which fails to satisfy the needs.
