In a world where dehumanization isolates society and progresses toward less human interaction, the world is moving toward a less human interactive society. George Orwell accurately described what would happen to society in the future in his novel 1984. He was able to explain what would happen to government in a future where citizens lost their ambitions. Thanks to new technologies, the world will soon look like it did in 1984. The main problem in today's society is that technology is advancing at a faster rate than human capabilities, where humans could perform the same tasks as machines. are today. Humans are becoming apathetic as they rely more and more on machines rather than human capabilities. As in 1984, minds were manipulated by Big Brother propaganda. The proletarians, far more numerous than any other social group, were incapable of thinking for themselves. They showed no desire to overthrow the government that treated them atrociously. Big Brother's mind was so warped that he couldn't think for himself, and so the government felt no need to monitor them; however, they found it necessary to closely monitor internal party members. Most proletarians were not intelligent enough to pose a threat to Big Brother; except Syme. Syme believed in the principles of Ingsoc and knew of much evidence against Big Brother. “Indisputably, Syme will be vaporized” (Orwell 54), was what was running through Winston’s thoughts, as he knew he could denounce him as a thought criminal. The government used newspeak, propaganda, and other methods to control the Oceanic population. People need to communicate with each other and work together to accomplish things. If society can implement these solutions, the world can be prevented from becoming dehumanized. Orwell did a fantastic job describing the future of the world, and now people can use the knowledge he gave them to become more interactive with each other and act in more humane ways.
