Essay / Case Study: Judi Wineland - 700
Perception causes perceptual distortions, which are defined by errors made from inaccurate judgment made during the perception process. One perceptual distortion I have observed is called the self-serving bias. Judi considers herself an asset to OAT and that has merit, but at the same time, she started her business at a time when the external factor of competition was almost non-existent. By the time his daughters were born, it was around the same time that the adventure travel market was growing. You might think she's saying that her daughters taking her time is the cause of recent disappointing performances, when that may not be the real reason. She may be managing her business poorly. Another perception distortion may be one's view of employee motivation. Not all employees are the same and constantly checking on Gary, who continually fixes bugs in the accounting system, may just annoy him more than motivate him.
