Essay / Committed nurses: I want to be one - 883
1. Commitment is a state of mind. However, a commitment is more than something you intend to do; there is also someone waiting for you to do it. I have made several major commitments in my life, the first being enlisting in the United States Coast Guard right out of high school. When I signed those enlistment papers, I knew I was committing to serving my country for at least the next four years. I know what it takes to commit and how to get the job done. I plan to use the skills I learned during my military service to manage my time effectively and efficiently. I am accustomed to the strict schedules and grueling schedules of military life and I believe this experience provides me with an excellent foundation to build upon when it comes to the commitment required to complete the nursing training program. I currently work at Anna Jaques Hospital as a Unit Coordinator. If I am accepted into the nurse training program, I plan to significantly reduce my work hours to per diem status in order to accommodate the hours required of me to complete the rigorous training program.2. Nurses are at the heart of health care. The word nurse is a general term for all the amazing things that nurses are. The first being a servant. Nurses serve the doctor and the patients they care for. The nurse follows the doctor's orders regarding medications and treatments. They are also defenders. Ensure their patients receive the best care possible. Nurses are record keepers, recording vital information regarding the plan of care and whether the patient is on the path to recovery and any adjustments that need to be made. They are auditors, who perform a thorough examination of each of their patients... middle of paper ...... Jersey, I got off the bus to train instructors shouting all kinds of orders in my face. This was not what I was prepared for, each day of basic training got a little easier. I came to learn the routine and what was expected of me. I was now able to master any task, regardless of the level of stress placed on me. After weeks of boot camp, you realize you can handle anything life throws at you. You develop the ability to adapt and overcome in no time. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to complete 8 weeks of training away from my family and support system, but I had learned it was possible and I accomplished the task. So now in life I know that I have literally learned the skills from the instructors no matter how hard things get; I have the ability to adapt and overcome whatever life throws at me.
