Essay / Disadvantages and advantages of university - 810
University for me is where I start my future career and adapt my learning in this field. The three major changes for me were integration into university life, group work and time and stress management. All of these have impacted my college experience and I will explain how. Settling into college life was slightly different for me, as I chose not to move into a residence hall, so I commuted. For me, commuting is much cheaper than living in a dorm and since I don't live too far away, it made sense to me. However, this still comes with costs, such as gas and maintaining your car. You also have to deal with road traffic and make sure you leave on time to get to your class. I think it's more common now for people to commute. “More than a third (34%) make journeys lasting more than 30 minutes” (Collier, 2013), which does not surprise me given the rising cost of housing. But as I was commuting, I was afraid that students had already formed their friendship groups and that I would be left out, but I found students who were in the same boat as me and who quickly made friends. There is also a lot of work to be done. do, which shocked me because I didn't realize how many there were. There are also a range of ways to access the work, for example WOLF online and posting to forums. For this reason, I believe it takes commitment on the part of the student in order to complete all the work and earn grades. Additionally, the classes shocked me because they weren't as boring as people make them out to be. Cottrell explains, “Usually students listen and take notes while the professor speaks or reads notes, writes on the board, or presents using PowerPoint. " (2012, p.8) Which I don't agree with, because you do a lot of...... middle of paper..., social activities and academic work, so I still have the rest I need. Eventually, I also incorporated different time management techniques throughout my week, including a calendar for everything I do, a journal to write down all tasks and arrangements, and completing priority tasks first, then at least a second. Anas (2010) recommends: “Use a weekly planner, listing priorities first and including reasonable social and recreational activities. » Which I agree with because it will help you plan your day and make sure you are aware of what needs to be done, so you don't miss deadlines for college work or any other arrangements that you might have. Overall, my first semester at university was both enjoyable and challenging. This has been a huge learning curve for me and made me realize how much I want to be here and that I want to do well..
