    B. Summary of Evidence Before the arrival of Genghis Khan, the Mongols were just a group of diverse tribes. Constantly hostile to China, the Mongols lived through the Bronze Age and the Iron Age as distinct tribes. However, during the 12th and 13th centuries this would change. Believed to have been born in 1155 or 1162, Temujin (later known as Chinggis and Genghis Khan) was one of six siblings and a violent nomad. Coincidentally, he had a blood clot in his arm - to the Mongols, this was a sign that he was destined to become a great leader. At the age of nine, Temujin's father arranged a marriage for him and placed him in the care of a new family. where he later married. Shortly after this event, his father was poisoned by an enemy tribe. Wishing to become a leader, he returned home to take up his father's former position. After refusing to lead the tribe, he was banished and left in poverty with his mother and siblings. Surviving on wild berries and beef carcasses, his family admired him. Often rejected by the rest of his family, Temujin lived a difficult life. It was only when he killed his brother while hunting game that his position in the family became concrete. Later, in 1177, the young boy was captured by one of his father's former tribes, the Tayichiud. These men enslaved and tortured him. It wasn't until a tribe father, Chilaun, helped him escape. He soon joined forces with other men and his name spread quickly among the Mongols. Around this time, he began studying the "difficult political climate" between the tribes and grew up learning the truth of society which included tribal warfare, theft, raids, corruption, and continued acts of revenge.
