Essay / The Housing Crisis - 1254
The current housing crisis America finds itself in is one of the greatest challenges America has ever faced. America's problems are further compounded by growing unemployment among American citizens and environmental problems such as global warming. Solving any of these problems would be a Herculean task, but each of them must be addressed in order to protect American families from disaster. However, it is possible to find a solution to the problems of the housing crisis that can also be used to improve the problems of unemployment and environmental destruction. The first part of the solution involves the U.S. government purchasing homes that have been foreclosed on and using them to provide temporary housing for homeless families. The second part involves employing local labor and construction crews to improve the quality of these homes so that they are more attractive to buyers and less destructive to the environment. This will help alleviate problems linked to the real estate crisis, unemployment and difficulties linked to pollution and energy waste. Every foreclosed, boarded up and abandoned home represents a loss in the American dream. This loss is also felt by the people living around the foreclosed house. Neighbors of foreclosed homes who are able to meet their mortgage payments must remain helpless as the value of their own properties declines. Empty homes also become havens for drug addicts and other illicit activities that further depress neighbors' property values. The quality of life in the region is rapidly deteriorating. Difficulties with foreclosure can be resolved by the federal government purchasing the foreclosed homes that have...... middle of paper ......st utilities in the home at 50% with these facilities and more Again. These lights can help reduce the cost of living at home. Magavi funded the training of Agape Plastering's plasterers to travel to New Hampshire to learn how to use a new type of environmentally friendly plaster for the home. The new training that construction workers learned and developed while working on the house allows them to grow their own businesses. If federal and state governments hired and trained personnel to improve foreclosed homes, millions of jobs could be created. Direct government investment in foreclosed homes would be the best solution to end the housing crisis. The federal government has the opportunity to use this dilemma to help solve the problems of foreclosures, unemployment and environmental destruction..
