  • Essay / Changes to school meals at South Western High School

A student sits in class waiting for the glorious moment: the moment the lunch bell rings. The students stomach growls and groans as it waits in agony. The young man rushes to the cafeteria to enjoy a delicious meal. He would find himself disappointed with the food and other factors that add up to make up our lunch experience. Our school needs to create a more enjoyable lunch period for students. To improve the lunch time of students at South Western Senior High School, our school should improve the quality of food, acquire new payment ideas and adopt new lunch procedures. First of all, the biggest problem at our school when it comes to lunch is the quality and quantity of food we receive. Have you ever heard of “Pink Slime”? Pink Slime is an ammonia-treated meat filler that schools in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Virginia and Texas serve to their students. Chances are our school is feeding us this crap. Food is often burned, making it much less appetizing. Not only are we served filler, contaminated meats, or burnt foods, but the portion sizes do not satisfy the average student's appetite. The majority of school students should not have to pay extra expenses just to be able to buy extra food to satisfy their appetite. The hard-working students at South Western High School deserve better than low-quality meats and small portions. Secondly, many disadvantages lie in payment procedures. Our school does not allow students to “borrow money,” which means that a student who does not have 5 cents for their lunch cannot get their lunch. This student should instead get peanut butter and jelly instead of today's appetizer or have a snack. Next, our school should think about creating a way for a student to see middle of paper......their balance. A program like this is what students want, but having this feature on a separate website from Sapphire makes checking accounts even more inconvenient. This program is a site where users must register to view their account balance. Creating an account on this program and having to log in every time they want to check their account is a nuisance. This should be a feature on Sapphire so that the already logged in student can quickly check their money, where all their school related information is. School lunches at South Western High School are not as enjoyable as they could be. Our school needs changes to address issues during our lunch period. To improve the lunch period experience, South West should serve students more appetizing foods, create different ways to make paying for food easier, and increase lunch procedures..
