  • Essay / The Disadvantages of Gun Control in the United States

Gun control is a topic that generates strong opinions among the general public. Gun control is the effort to regulate or control the use and sale of firearms. The right to bear arms is granted to all Americans by the Second Amendment and many consider it essential to maintaining law and order in the United States of America. Even though this is the Second Amendment right granted to citizens in the Bill of Rights, many Americans choose not to own a gun, and others would like to see this right abolished altogether. Both sides of this issue have good arguments, but upon further research many more details emerge that explain why siding against gun control is a better conclusion for the United States and its people. Some may argue that gun control should be enforced because it will make the public a safer place and reduce gun violence. “On average, eight children and adolescents under the age of twenty are killed by firearms every day” (“Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence,” 2012). The current President of the United States, Barack Obama, is currently working on gun enforcement and adoption. more laws and legislation to protect America's families and citizens. Successful enforcement of our current laws would be a major step forward in reducing the number of gun crimes and the number of criminals in possession of firearms. One of the major debates over gun control is whether existing gun laws are adequate or whether more gun laws need to be created and enforced. In 1791, the Second Amendment was a law designed to grant citizens of the United States the right to own and carry a firearm. Although this law seemed to give more freedom to citizens of the United States in the 18th century, it became a law on...... middle of paper ...... society. Conclusion In sum, a federalist approach to the gun control debate will result in less violence within national borders. By implementing a state law that requires private sellers to obtain a license and buyers to undergo background checks, the Gun Show loophole will slowly shrink over time. Passing other laws limiting the type of firearm one can carry will also help reduce gun-related deaths. If Republicans want to increase their chances of stealing the White House in 2014, they must finally lessen their commitment to the Second Amendment and realize the benefits of a concealed weapons bill, so society can finally see a sharp decline in annual homicides and related injuries. Guns cause emotional distress because we fear people having guns around us. Nowadays, everyone has guns, and it's increasing everywhere.
