Eden DeAtleyMrs. HackerHonors English March 21, 2014Why are athletes overpaid? Why are athletes so overpaid? The fans can blame themselves. It is thanks to them that athletes earn so much money. Hasn't everyone gone to see a live sporting event and found themselves paying a large sum of money not only for the event but also for the overpriced food and drinks provided at of the match? By attending the game and spending their hard-earned money, spectators provide athletes with the millions of dollars they earn each year. It's not the athlete's fault if they are overpaid. Some athletes are much better than others at managing the money they earn. Some athletes sponsor charity events and lend their fame to fundraisers, while others spend their money on partying and living very lavish lives. Despite the common belief that athletes are grossly overpaid, fans continue to crave entertainment and therefore provide them with money. Athletes are overpaid. Athletes as a whole offer nothing to society that can improve it. Unlike doctors, police officers, firefighters, teachers and other professions necessary for daily order and safety. Being a professional athlete has no real value to society as a whole, it just allows people to waste their time and money. Athletes don't spend their days saving lives or fighting a war across the world to keep this country safe. Under no circumstances is the distribution of money and wealth between players fair. Paying athletes $13.5 million for a single year is simply not justifiable (Herald). Think about all the other jobs that provide a real service; like teachers, responsible for educating our young people or doctors who save lives middle of paper ......d dollars. In truth, Americans provide them with outrageous amounts of money because they simply cannot give up their entertainment. Despite many complaints from athletes that they are overpaid, they work very hard every day. They condition, practice and travel a lot. But shouldn't athletes enjoy playing the game and not worry so much about the financial part. If anyone needs to get paid, it should be college athletes because they actually have to manage a sport between school work and work. It's very difficult to be an athlete and train every day to succeed and hope that one day you can make a living becoming a professional athlete. It's everyone's dream, isn't it? Become famous and make a lot of money doing something fun. It should be the love of the game and not the money that counts.
