  • Essay / Humanoid Robotics - 718

Hsiao-Shuang ChouALS 162 Comparative AnalysisIt was a long time ago, I remember the first time I saw the Aibo (Artificial Intelligence Robot made by Sony) in a center commercial, I wondered if it was possible to make a robotic dog. Wouldn't we have a robotic human or other types of animals in the future? Today, few humanoids have been created and scientists are also trying to improve the humanoid through different advancement systems and software. Although both Bruemmer and Richardson analyze the relationship between robot and human, Bruemmer uses more logical and experimental methods for the audience, while Richardson focuses more on facts and motivation. According to “Humanoid Robotics: Ethical Considerations,” David Bruemmer says that technology can help humans do many things, but it will never replace humans. He states that if people want robots to be more useful, they will have to install a motivation system in the robots. Humanoids present a significant danger that will limit human interaction and people will spend more time interacting with machines. However, it is humans who can decide in which direction the humanoid will develop. In the second article, “My Friend the Robot,” Kathleen Richardson states that robots will be the emotional support for humans in the future. Today, people can live a day longer and the elderly population continues to grow. It is necessary for the elderly to have a robot that can take care of themselves, such as medical care and solitude. The robot may have more advanced systems and software to reduce its owner's stress. Researchers haven't yet figured out the best way to do this. (Transition) Buremmer, working at the Idaho National Laboratory. It has well under...... middle of paper ......ies to show the average of the seniors. She also uses different historical fasts of humanoids such as Asimo, Pearl and Paro. Additionally, she makes readers feel connected to her ideas by asking questions such as "Are you worried about being all alone in your old age?" » (2007) where his idea concerns the emotional and physical support of the elder, which can lead readers to think of their parents. On the one hand, Bruemmer's view that technology will never replace humans is a new thought for me. Moreover, I am convinced by Bruemmer after reading his article. On the other hand, I think Richardson has an interesting idea about the bond of friendship between humanoids and humans. I would like to have a robot friend if possible in the future. I think people should believe that humanoids can be useful in the future, even if it's not obvious yet.
