Essay / Lauisiana Medicaid Healthcare Program Expansion
Medicaid provides medical benefits for individuals and families to receive health care due to lower income, and there are more children receiving Medicaid benefits in the State of Louisiana. Working families apply for this benefit because they cannot afford their family's health care. Applying for this benefit does not consider that person to be unemployed or unfit; some people simply cannot afford to have the extra funds taken out of their paycheck. The parents of these children want their families to receive medical benefits for health, personal or accidental reasons. Additionally, older adults should not have to suffer because they will need Medicare benefits once they are unable to work and care for themselves. As governor of this state, his job should be to protect and help Louisiana residents, not harm those with the lowest incomes. Medicaid does not harm the state, but resisting Medicaid expansion would not be the best choice. Additionally, for working parents, health care is sometimes too much of a burden for their families, which may lead them to turn to Medicaid programs alongside new health care reform. These parents should not be penalized along with their children. Older adults should also have the opportunity to receive health coverage, as some of them have worked hard most of their lives to obtain Medicare benefits once they retire. Hopefully, politicians can come together to make Medicaid and this reform effective instead of just excluding it. With all the ideas they can probably make this program a success even if many don't agree with it..
