  • Essay / Issues for Stakeholders and the Company - 822

The many stakeholders in this case include George, the City of Hondo, current employees, the environment and the company. George has moved his family and risks losing his job if the company moves elsewhere. He faces the decision to continue to let emissions exceed EPA guidelines at the current location by scheduling major emissions work at night, thereby causing more environmental damage. Furthermore, if he asked the company to move to the new location, the environment would still be affected on the American side. By continuing to be above the emissions benchmark, the environment, employees and citizens are affected. “The environmental problems managers face are not just about trees, water and birds. These issues affect everyone, including managers themselves. (eGuide, p.2) In addition, employees are stakeholders because they risk losing their source of income. Finally, the company is a stakeholder because it risks having to face the costs of a move or continuing to suffer fines. The benefit to each stakeholder is a waste of money and the environment continues to be affected. According to the Kaplan eGuide, the Clean Air Act applies to this case because of the emissions and their ongoing effects on the environment and people. In this case, the company would be held liable if it continues to allow smokestack emissions to remain above the allowable level set by the EPA. By not investing in new chimney cleaners, the company will continue to be above the emissions level and therefore continue to suffer from fines. Additionally, if the violations lead to affecting the environment, they could potentially take legal action...... middle of paper ...... the requirements decrease the risk of the company being sued by private citizens or by the EPA. .By following the recommendations made by the EPA, this allows them to follow standards and contribute to solutions. As the e-guide shows, “they also require businesses to identify steps they can take to reduce pollution. (eGuide, p. 5) Therefore, by retrofitting the chimneys instead of moving to another location, which will continue to contribute to high emission levels, it recognizes that the company will be contributing to the solution. In conclusion, although we will continue to fight the effects of air pollution, if every business and individual continues to contribute with their ideas, hope for the environment will stop deteriorating so quickly.
