The Cold War took place between 1947 and 1991, causing tensions between the East (USSR) and the West (USA) . As a result, many events took place during this period and affected many countries. Some important events include: the Korean War (1950-1953), the ANZUS Treaty (1951), and SEATO (1954). After the end of the World War, Korea was divided into two parts, South Korea and North Korea. The parties in these two countries had different ideologies. South Korea was capitalist and North Korea was communist. When North Korea crossed the border (38th parallel) and entered South Korea's camp, the first attack of the Cold War took place. Australia wanted to have the United States as a military ally as it overtook Britain. At the start of the war, Australia sent troops from the 3rd RAR Battalion to give strength to (capitalist) South Korea.
