  • Essay / Domestic Violence in the Color Purple by Alice Walker

Men around the world have always been the dominant sex since the earliest ages. Domestic violence is a critical issue that negatively impacts women in today's world. The novel The Color Purple deals with the narrator Celie, an uneducated and poor black woman, who is physically abused by her so-called father and her husband. Throughout the novel, it is shown how a helpless woman stands up and fights back after years of abuse. I say God's. I don’t know any other men or what else to say,” Celie explains in The Color Purple (2 books). Only 25% of physical violence and 20% of rapes inflicted on women by their partners were reported to the police (“Domestic Violence Statistics” 1). Studies show that...... middle of paper ...... rape investigates, helps students be more informed about dating violent assault and helps those who are aggressive and part of domestic violence (Presidential Proclamation 2). Throughout the novel, The Color Purple, many abusive relationships and people take place. Some are strong enough to overcome domestic violence in their relationship, while others are weaker and have less hope of getting through their relationship. Domestic violence is either taught or a growth in self-awareness, and it develops without anyone in the relationship stopping it. Many injuries have occurred due to relationship violence, but even worse, deaths. Domestic violence in the United States is decreasing over time.
