  • Essay / Rethinking capitalism at the meeting of young economist students...

I also had this question in mind when I first heard about the meeting of young economist students, at during my first year of undergraduate studies at the Department of Economics, Jadavpur University. Being associated with YESM for the last two editions and based on careful economic and logical reasoning and knowledge as well as practical experiences in many life situations, I have gathered over the years a very certain fact of which I I realized: -It is not always by one's academic superiorities or one's leadership skills or by the strength of one's "contacts", can one COMPLETELY make a substantial difference in one's own life, and even less in that of others. a society, a country or for those who think big, - for the well-being of the world. I have always believed that although these factors matter little in the initial and intermediate stages, they rather constitute a channel, a channel through which the main engine will direct our future and, therefore, the future of society, of the country and that of the world (if we want it). In my opinion, this main driver is our “inhibited application of the KNOWLEDGE that we have and will acquire”. YESM primarily aspires to propel this thought process among the students it caters to, – an attempt to ignite the minds of the future. , for the future!Regarding the theme of YESM 2012, on RETHINKING CAPITALISM, YESM seeks to delve into today's more practical world, moving beyond the realm of assumptions and perfect models. Nobel Prize winner Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965), asked in an interview: "What is wrong with men today?" “, saddened for a moment, replied: “Men don’t think.” Today's students study keeping in mind the major priority of having a secure future. A quest......middle of paper......y price scale. Let us use our most precious possession first instead of blindly following what has usually been blindly followed. Instead of always focusing on COMPETITION with each other, let's focus on CREATION. YESM's endeavor is to create a platform where the assimilation of all these thoughts and thought processes will take place, where minds of the future will always want to know more, discuss issues with true knowledge of them and , last but not least, the most important, - apply this knowledge and their conscience in the right directions. And if YESM succeeds in doing what it is intended to do, I am sure that this seminar, today and in the years to come, will be the reason, however small it may be, - FOR A BETTER TOMORROW! “Always do what is right. , this will satisfy half of humanity and astonish the other! -Mark Twain
