    Today's world is the result of centuries of evolution; one of the major adaptations is technology, particularly the invention of the smartphone. Smartphone is a cellular phone that has the ability to perform computer-like functions (Oxford Dictionaries Online Dictionary, n.d.). The smartphone largely belongs to young people; however, adults and elderly people are also turning to the use of this device. This in turn demonstrates the popularity of this wonderful device and is the reason why it is constantly monitored by its users. The continuous evolution of people's wants and needs, such as communication, information seeking, entertainment and recording, makes owning a smartphone essential and beneficial because it is portable, reliable and efficient. To begin with, the most important function of the smartphone is for communication purposes. Communication is relayed in many forms; text, call or via social networking sites. SMS is the most common and fastest means of communication. Research by Pew Internet and American Life Project indicates that 9 out of 10 American smartphone users send and receive text messages (MarketingCharts, 2011). The text function allows information to be transmitted in a timely manner, regardless of the recipient's location. On the other hand, while this allows for a much faster means of communicating with people, it also diminishes the ability to use other, much older means of communication. According to a Huffington Post article, therapist Cris Rowan claims that texting involves “no creativity, no imagination, no self-initiation” (Bindley, 2011).
