    Check out the sound “College is an everlasting memory that you will always cherish. » Many alumni have cited these words to undergraduates in all sorts of forms, whether they were speaking slang to connect with younger students or speaking intellectually with a vast vocabulary. However, however these words were spoken, they were triggered in many minds except mine. Howard University Homecoming took place October 22-27, 2013. The day after my eighteenth birthday was proclaimed as homecoming time for Howard students as well as graduates, celebrities and especially local residents in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Everyone was excited about this “once in a lifetime” opportunity. Well, from the 22nd to the 27th was this student's rejection period. I couldn't get myself excited enough to participate in the whole melee. Going home is another excuse to pay money to Howard University. Although I did not attend or pay expenses for Yardfest, fashion shows, R&B concerts or after-parties, I resolved to attend the free annual pep rally after the Freshman Seminar on October 22, 2013 Fortunately, what made the pep rally interesting was the music that resonated for the enjoyment of the ears of the listening audience. To start, Howard's marching band was the opening act. The booths were filled with Howard students eager to know what awaited them. Instead of having a band that just plays music, Howard has a band that performs a concert. The drum majors are the backbone of the group because if they were not fully involved in the commotion, the rest of the group would have fed off their atmosphere, which would have led to low participation in the stands. Even if the ba...... middle of paper ......wa days make no sense, that's true, but the artist knows exactly what he's doing. In the industry, it's all about money. They know that listeners don't care what the artist has to say, they want a beat they can dance to and a catchy chorus they can recite loudly in public. Music is the path to the heart and soul. Music allows you to pretend you're a different person. Hip-hop music, in particular, is the beat that speaks to city dwellers. “Like black America, we are on the verge of knitting, still too fragmented for a single leader (Touré, page 290).” Music will always claim that there is a number one artist for that season, but it's up to the listener to choose which artist they prefer to listen to. Music is too diverse to have just one leader when there are so many categories and so many different groups that prefer one genre over another..
