I first learned about this organization through my family and the newest member, Rita. Rita is our adopted dog who was rescued by Canine Estates and, from our experience with her, was severely abused. Rita came into Canine Estates with a daughter and both were successfully and happily adopted. This specific rescue organization focuses on small dogs and helping them adjust to their past lives transitioning to a life of adoption and happiness. The Canine Estates has an amazing business strategy and uses HR practices that have helped make this shelter different from most others. The Staff and Organization: The Canine Estates is a non-profit organization that operates a renovated home specifically used for pets and their needs (Appendix A). There are a handful of employees and the rest are volunteers. The animals are monitored most of the day, with different staff members coming at different times with volunteers, and then left alone at night. Canine Estates feeds, houses and cares for any clinical issues that arise with animals while they are in their care. They receive donations and have clients who donate to help provide for the dogs in their care. Initial Contact and Volunteering: I first contacted the organization in February to determine volunteer requirements and if I needed to be approved before actually becoming a volunteer. date. Once the Director, Sybil Freeman and I began corresponding, I received the appropriate paperwork and selected a date to volunteer on March 24, 2014. Their volunteer schedules operate in two-hour shifts and involve to interact with the dogs and take care of each dog. their needs or those of the staff. During my scheduled volunteer time, I was put ...... middle of paper ......f. They motivate volunteers by appealing to their emotion and personal interest in the animals, which helps provide a happier environment for the animal, which adds more motivation for the volunteer to keep coming back. A cycle can be perpetuated if the organization maintains the attributes that keep volunteers coming back. Benefits of the Experience: The experience was one that I really enjoyed. I was able to help an incredible organization and I will continue to do so as often and for as long as possible. The research, interaction, and organizational experience helped me see the real-world application of the lessons discussed in our sessions.ReferencesAbout Us. (nd).
