  • Essay / Hot Drinks Essay - 713

Introduction: Having a snack or drink between classes is not an uncommon activity for students and faculty. Most of the time, students or teachers can only go to a cafe to buy something because they don't have enough time to wait in line to get food in a restaurant. Sometimes students or teachers go to the cafe because it is much closer than the restaurants. Most students and faculty will go to a branded coffee shop on campus, such as Starbucks, but some will go to the coffee shop located inside the library. That being said, which gender goes to the library café more often? Do more people drink a cold drink rather than a hot drink? Do most students or faculty ignore the option of having a snack? These questions led me to the following hypothesis: do women drink hot drinks more often without eating? More women than men buy a hot drink without eating. Surprisingly, the gender of the students and faculty who visited the library cafe were roughly equal. The study, which lasted about half an hour, included equal numbers of men and women. The majority of participants received a hot drink, whether they were men or women. The result could likely be because the study was conducted on a colder day. The study could also have been conducted over a longer period or at two different times of the day. It could have been done once in the morning and once in the afternoon to see if the morning results matched the afternoon results. This would have resulted in a more accurate representation of the gender of individuals visiting the library cafe as well as the type of drinks individuals order and whether they purchase food with the order. Given the limited number of participants used and the short time period, the study did not have enough data to completely conclude.
