The Dutch theory is based on four premises that attempt to explain the person/work relationship.1. Most individual personalities can be classified into 6 main types: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising or conventional. Additionally, these personalities are arranged in a pattern that describes the individual.2. There are six types of work environment that coincide with the personality types mentioned above.3. Individuals seek work environments best suited to their personality type and pattern.4. In turn, a career that matches the individual's type has a more positive outcome than one that does not. One of the main facets of Holland's theory is that individuals whose personality patterns and work environment are congruent will have better career prospects and success. Additionally, people with different jobs and personality types may not have as harmonious a career experience.
