Bad Breath Don't you hate it when you're talking to someone who has bad breath but you feel too embarrassed to say that their breath stinks? While dental hygiene is important, there are other reasons why you might have bad breath, medically called halitosis. Sometimes you might not even notice that your breath stinks, but there are simple ways to test for and cure bad breath. Ways to Test for Bad BreathTesting for bad breath is a simple thing to do that takes little time and requires few items. For example, you can test by licking the back of your hand. Let it dry and try to smell it for any unpleasant odors (“How do I know…”). If at any time you can acquire a spoon, perhaps after you have finished eating you can also use it to test your breathing. If you need a bad breath test, simply scrape the back of your tongue, pull it out and see if it smells (“How…”). If the spoon smells bad, if your breath smells bad, it's that simple! If you want to look at the question more scientifically, scientists use a device called a Halimeter (“How…”). To test your breathing, the device samples it using a straw and is calculated. If levels exceed a certain number, your breathing feels unpleasant. This is the most accurate way to test your breathing. An example of a halimeter is in Figure 1.
