    The Four Management Functions within Ginseg Regional Health Systems20th century mine owner Henry Fayol first coined the term "four management functions" to define a functional organizational design, focused on essential skills. . ("Four Functions of Management", 1999) Since then, processes, projects, teams, systems and different specializations, such as marketing and human resources, have manipulated, supplemented and layered these concepts. However, these four basic concepts are still at the heart of managerial thinking: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Planning is concerned with the future impact of today's decision. (Erven, nd) Planning, as a basic definition, involves setting goals, analyzing dependencies, and planning activities and resources to ensure that goals are achieved. It is an ongoing process of developing the company's mission and goals and determining how they will be achieved. Planning includes both the broadest vision of the organization, for example its mission, and the narrowest vision, for example a tactic to achieve a specific goal. Planning is the essential function from which the other three management functions flow. At GRHS (GINSEG REGIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM), basic planning initiates the organization by determining the vision, mission, objectives and goals of the system. Planning determines the fundamental understanding of what GRHS seeks to achieve. Every aspect of the hospital must be planned; nursing staff to meet patient needs, conference services to ensure continuing education courses are held, as well as environmental services where sanitation is of utmost importance.
