Essay / Linguistic Analysis of Animal Farm - 1229
Benjamin is just as smart as the pigs, if not smarter. However, he holds little to no power in Animal Farm. The donkey, however, has the possibility of possessing power, hidden under his skin – he can use it if he wishes. Indeed, when Boxer is taken away, it is Benjamin who incites the other animals to action with his words: “You don’t understand what that means? They're taking Boxer to the knacker! (84). Squealer had to do damage control of the situation, and he feared that the animals would not believe his explanation – "his little eyes darted suspicious glances from side to side" (85). However, his use of language beat Benjamin's because he was willing to harness power; while Benjamin only cared about saving his friend in the heat of the moment.
