Company OverviewOne of the largest technology companies in the world, Lenovo had humble beginnings as a small Chinese company founded in 1984. The company has grown modestly throughout the rest of the 20th century. . It was not until the company acquired IBM's personal computing business in 2005 (Martin, 2014) that the company began to gain prominence in the technology industry. Lenovo's innovation and strategic decision-making have enabled the company to scale on a global platform and allowed it to become one of the leading technology companies in the market today. Company History Review Lenovo was founded as Legend Holdings in China in 1984 by a group of young Chinese engineers. The company did not experience significant growth in the 1980s and 1990s. However, in the early 2000s, under the leadership of CEO Yang Yuanqing, the company made a strategic decision to change its name to "Lenovo", with the ambition to differentiate itself from other companies called “Legend” on the foreign market. did not experience much success until its expansion in 2005. In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM's "ThinkPad" business (Martin, 2014). This acquisition constitutes a major strategic step for the company as it allows it to access foreign markets and consumers. This has also allowed the company to significantly increase its product offering in terms of volume. By acquiring IBM's personal computer business, the company became the world's third largest PC manufacturer (Martin, 2014).
