Jones states in his Gallup news article Americans Say Equal Pay Top Issue for Working Women, (Jones, 2014) that data from a Gallup poll from September 2014 show that two of the most important issues facing working women in this country today are equality/fair pay and equal opportunity for advancement and promotion. These concerns outweigh issues of better child care, better health care, and the economy in general. The number of working women in the United States is almost equal to that of men, but the challenges women face in establishing and advancing in careers are different from those of men. The EEOC Women's Work Group released a report (EEOC Women's Work Group, 2010) that cites many of the biggest challenges facing women seeking equal opportunities in the workplace. These include lack of mentoring and preparation for leadership positions, being less likely to be invited to networking events, women not being given training and development assignments on an equal footing with men and that women are not targeted in recruitment efforts for senior level and management positions. . To combat these discriminatory practices, employers should develop mentoring programs and monitor their effectiveness, actively ensuring that women are included on an equal footing with men. Senior officials should be expected to mentor their subordinates and this mentoring should not have gender bias. Businesses should conduct a barrier analysis to discover which barriers
