  • Essay / What is the difference between King Lear and King Lear

The Fool encourages Lear to follow the wise path but Lear, unlike Theo, completely ignores the Fool's suggestion and continues with his own intuition. Lear refuses to believe that Regan is as cruel as Goneril. The Fool's whispered voice of reason encourages Lear to regain consciousness of himself. Through a series of bad decisions, the Fool is finally able to show Lear the real world. This realization within Lear would not have occurred if the Fool had kept Lear's foreshadowing to himself. Therefore, Lear changes from a blind individual to a compassionate individual, who sees the truth. In conclusion, other characters largely played an important role in making Lear the compassionate and loving person he is.
