Essay / Criminal Justice System - 1517
One of the main goals of the criminal justice system is to reduce crime and the heat of crime. To achieve this it uses different agencies, the main ones being the police, the Crown Prosecution Service, the courts, prisons and probation. They all act in sync to fulfill their legal responsibilities, including reducing the level of crime. The purpose of this essay is specifically to discuss the functions of the police and how they actually fit into the goals of the criminal justice system as a whole. The criminal justice system focuses on the formal response to crime and is used with special regulations in different countries. In England and Wales, “it is used to describe institutions and agencies that respond formally to the commission of offenses (Hucklesby and Wahidin, 2009, pp3). All its agencies work together, systematically and coordinated, but their objectives are generally not the same. At the same time, the main objective of coordinating their functions is to "protect the public by preventing and deterring crime, rehabilitating offenders and incapacitating those who constitute a persistent treat to the community" (Davies, Croall and Tyrer, 1998, pp6). In order to examine the functions of the police, it is necessary to state what the term “police” actually means. For England and Wales in particular, "the police are the largest and most visible agency involved in the criminal justice process, defined by Innes (2003: 64) as a "specific and modern organization, endowed with the legal authority of the State to use physical coercion.” or the processing thereof, to enforce the law in the context of maintaining social order” (Hucklesby et al, 2009, pp.38). The police are responsible for a race...... middle of paper ......rn, 2003, pp314). In this context, two-way communication between the police and the public contributes to effective crime prevention. Furthermore, this aim of the police underpins the aim of the criminal justice system to protect the public by preventing and deterring crime (Davies et al, 1998, pp6). All of this actually shows how much responsibility the police have to provide oversight to the public. As an integral part of the criminal justice system in England and Wales, it is also responsible for achieving and achieving the objectives of the system. Not only do the police have responsibilities to the system, but so do other agencies, whatever their functions. The police agency's goals differ from those of other agencies in the system, but they all cooperate and relate to each other in order to achieve cross-system goals..
