Essay / but I couldn't imagine what wrestling would have been like 9000 years ago! In Japan, they found sculptures depicting something similar to their famous sport, sumo. Hmmm, who knew that the sports we play now are the same ones that have been around for thousands of years and are the same with just a few rule changes here and there, I would have expected sports to change a lot. In the Sumerian civilization they found more than one painting that shows more examples of sports and popular wrestling, for example there is a painting that shows 3 pairs of wrestlers around 3000 BC. Even the Sumerian king had fishing hooks like the ones we use today. In Egypt there are monuments built in honor of the pharaohs dating back to around 2000 BC and on these monuments many sports were featured. There were sports like wrestling, weightlifting, long jump, javelin throwing, high jump, swimming, rowing, shooting (like bow and arrow), fishing, and there were also many different ball games. Wrestling is an old sport but it is very popular. Most places have a history of struggle. Weather is the same kind of struggle. I'm not sure they played wrestling the same way.... middle of paper ..... .at it sucks, they just sold one of their best players. The same year American boxer Jack Dempsey beat Jess Willard for the heavyweight title, Jack won and Jess walked away with a broken jaw, this fight looks like something I would like to see. Traveling further back in time, we head to the year 1924, where Johnny Weissmuller won three Olympic gold medals in swimming and a bronze medal in water polo. The same year, 1924, a British rugby team called the Lions toured South Africa, which was a pretty big event. Just four years later, Norwegian figure skater Sonja Henie won the first of three consecutive individual Olympic gold medals. Wow, if you think about it, sports have changed a lot throughout history, especially between 1800 and today, that's when it's changed the most. From the earliest times, such as before 600 BC, sports remained the same for a long time until the years 1000.
