  • Essay / Prisons - 2474

IntroductionLongitudinal research was conducted to compare the rate of violence in men's and women's prisons. Research on this topic is important because it not only determines where violence is prevalent, but also focuses on other aspects. It focuses on the psychological, social and sexual aspect of the prisoner. This topic not only focuses on those who have the highest rates of violence, but also why this gender has a higher rate. This topic delves deeper into the differences between male and female prisoners and the causes of their high rates of violence. Most people would say that men's prisons have a higher rate of violence for biological reasons. People tend to think that men are more aggressive and therefore violence is prevalent in men's prisons. However, this idea goes much further. The purpose of this article is to determine whether rates of violence are higher in men's prisons or women's prisons and why. this is the case. Various key factors have been discussed in relation to this topic. These four factors would not only help answer the research questions but also open up opportunities to conduct similar research. This research paper will examine whether violence is higher in men's or women's prisons and why it is high. In order to answer these two research questions, the following factors will be discussed: relational violence in women's prisons, a comparison of experiences of sexual coercion reported by men and women in prison, confrontations between prisoners and the search for respect, and rates of victimization.Theoretical FrameworkThe most important factor regarding the theme of rates of violence in men's and women's prisons is relationship violence in the women's prison. This factor is very...... middle of paper ......ul and relevant. Each study contributed to finding an answer to the research question. Studies have shown the factors explaining why? How? and when? Do prisoners (male and female) engage in violence and how does this increase rates of violence. Although all of this data was very useful, more research should be done. More studies focusing on female prisoners are needed to better understand women's prisons. Additionally, studies that use women as part of the study should increase the sample size. Authors typically examine a large sample of men and only a few samples of women. This makes people wonder why is there a huge difference between the sample sizes. In conclusion, if experimenters focused on women as they do with men, perhaps more data could be presented..
