When children reach a certain age, they like to have their own spending money. While they sometimes receive money for birthdays and other holidays, some parents pay their children to do work around the house. Although it benefits the child who strives to have their own money, there are many pros and cons to giving children an allowance for household chores. Some people think paying kids to help around the house is redundant. While most children are assigned certain daily, weekly, or even monthly tasks, these tasks must be completed whether the child receives an allowance or not. Therefore, giving children their own pocket money and calling it an allowance could possibly affect how they complete their chores. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. The child may think that if he doesn't want to do his chores, he doesn't have to, and the consequence will be that he won't receive an allowance.
