Hello future American literature student, I'm Davon Key, a former student who took this horrible course. I'm here today to talk to you about the period of American Romanticism. During this course, you will spend many weeks exploring the ideas of Romanticism. During this period, many authors wrote to speak of the love of nature, the concerns of individuals, and the emphasis on emotion. As you continue reading, you will begin to have a clear understanding of the period of American Romanticism. As we progress through this lesson, you will begin to read works from this period such as "The Devil and Tom Walker" written. by Washington Irving. He described how the devil comes to deal with ordinary humans. This shows how there is an evil side in everyone, which I infer from "On one side of this creek is a beautiful dark grove" (Irving1). What I take from this is that something can be so beautiful but still have a bad or different outcome than one would expect.
