  • Essay / A Home - 697

Our cities lack some outside involvement in the lives of many displaced families. Homelessness is an ongoing cycle that leads homeless people to associate with other displaced homeless people. Homeless people return daily in need of social services, shelter and are not making enough effort to maintain a quality life. Starting Over can introduce families to an effective approach to learning methods to begin the steps necessary to maintain a stable life in everyday society. The use of buildings can help homeless people to have a better perception of themselves, when dealing with society or employers, to undergo vocational training in an adult education program , while providing them with shelter. (Edin & Lein, 1997). This use of empty buildings is a good expense to make available to the homeless. This use will help stop the growth in the number of displaced families, unlock the free or low-cost services needed to maintain quality lives, and give homeless people a place to start again. Abandoned buildings often become temporary camps in many communities. The use of these buildings justifies the need for arrangements to accommodate those who find themselves on the street. Many homeless people have found housing in warming shelters or some type of transitional housing. If we look at the statistics, 38% of homeless people were homeless, living in vehicles, in abandoned buildings, somewhere on the street and even in public places unfit for living. The National Alliance to End Homelessness found that the increase has not changed in its most recent statistics, it increased between 2011 and 2012. (Henry and Sermons, 2010) Open settlement reduces the percentage homeless people, thus reducing the repetitive cycle. Being... middle of paper ... lucky enough to have a home to accommodate your family takes a lot of pressure off relationships, reducing drug and alcohol abuse. Knowing they have someone willing to give them a chance is what makes the most difference. Works Cited Webpage: Henry, M. and Sermons, S. (2010). The State of Homelessness in America 2013.
