Unfortunately, most of our society associates the black community, especially men, with criminals. The issue of police brutality against black men is becoming a growing problem in our society today. There have been numerous recent incidents of accidental or intentional shootings of black men by police officers in our country. For example, last year a man was shot in a dark stairwell because an officer was surprised and fired his gun instead of using his flash to better see the dark space. The officer accused of killing the man, Akai Gurley, has since been found guilty of charges brought following the horrific incident. This incident in our society may be related to a similar scene from Crash. Officer Tom Hansen was heading home from work when he saw a man hitchhiking on the side of the road and decided he would help him and take him where he needed to go. The man gets into the car and starts talking to the police officer casually, but when the black man starts commenting on the officer's interests in music and other things, the officer starts to get upset and says to the black man that he is going to have to do it. stop and he will have to find another way to get to his location. The black man says he wasn't making fun of him and tries to show him something he thinks the officer would like. The black man begins to reach into his pocket and the officer believes he is looking for a gun and the officer asks him to stop what he is doing, but the black man is still reaching for his pocket. As a result, Officer Hansen shoots the black man and then realizes that the black man never had a gun and was trying to show him a religious statue. The police officer panics and throws the black man's body on the side of the road. This
