    The Purpose of EducationDuring my years of education, I have often wondered about the points of many of my courses. Today, as I prepare to enter the teaching field, I am once again evaluating why we need to educate children. I believe that some of the main goals of education, besides the obvious goal of gaining knowledge, are to teach our culture, develop social skills, refine the use of our language, and develop skills in problem solving and logical reasoning. These are all important elements of our daily lives that translate through the many things we accomplish throughout our education. Learning about culture through education is an important part of our learning experiences. Before a child goes to school, they are only introduced to the culture their family is a part of. By going to school, you learn about the general norms that are accepted, not only in schools, but also in the world of work as well as in daily life outside the home. Although some children may constantly be the center of attention at home, at school they learn that they cannot always be the center of everyone's attention. It also teaches children responsibility and that if they don't do what they're asked, there will be consequences. Developing social skills is an extremely important part of a student's education.
