Donald Trump, a selfish businessman, has such self-esteem that he has now become a joke in the eyes of the world. Trump created a false image of himself due to his excessive pride, called hubris. Pride leads people to have mistaken identities, arrogance and can lead to their downfall. In Homer's The Odyssey, Odysseus, a proud warrior, attempts to return home with his crew after fighting in the Trojan War. Odysseus' hubris ends up leading to many problems for himself and his crew. Hubris played a negative role in The Odyssey due to Odysseus revealing his identity to Polyphemus, not telling his crew about Aeolus' windbag, and staying with Circe for a year. Excessive pride caused Odysseus to reveal his identity to Polyphemus, which led to many problems. Odysseus and his crew had just managed to escape the Cyclops Polyphemus, after driving a stake through his eye. So pride led to many problems for Odyssey and his crew... middle of paper ... let Penelope and Telemachus suffer for a whole year because of his own greed and pride. Odysseus' pride blinded him, so that he lost sight of what really mattered. Hubris had a negative effect in The Odyssey due to Odysseus revealing his identity, hiding secrets from his crew, and losing his passion to return home. Just as pride caused Odysseus to make many bad decisions, pride prevents many people today from making wise choices. Pride gives people a false, perfect image of themselves, which leads to arrogance and a distorted reality. These negative traits that accompany pride usually lead to pain and suffering in people. People need to start living more grateful and humble lives, so that humanity can truly progress and prosper..
