    Post-traumatic stress disorder There are many psychological disorders today. These disorders have developed over the years into several categories including certain subcategories. Anxiety is a category of psychological disorder. Anxiety is defined as a feeling of worry or nervousness and usually unease. Anxiety disorders are the most common psychological disorder in the United States today. A common type of anxiety or one of the subcategories of anxiety is called post-traumatic stress disorder. This disorder is one of the most common anxiety disorders compared to generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and agoraphobia. Post-traumatic stress disorder affects 7.7 million people aged eighteen and older in the United States. Women are twice as likely to be affected by this disorder. According to the DSM-IV-TR, there are three different types of post-traumatic stress disorder. The first is called acute; this is when the symptoms last less than three months. The next type is called chronic, where symptoms last more than three months and with delayed onset where there is a six-month period between the traumatic experience and the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. There are many things one needs to know about this anxiety disorder, such as the causes, consequences of anxiety and the treatments available to cure this disorder. People may think they know what causes most anxiety disorders, but there are also many things a person may not know. Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop over many different series of events. These different studies are helping us find ways to treat PTSD patients, whether they are a veteran or a young child. As a country, we should be able to do more to help someone before they develop post-traumatic stress disorder. As soon as a soldier leaves the military, he must undergo group therapy to help him cope with his experience. People who have experienced sexual abuse should have more opportunities to get help and attend group therapy with other people who have had the same experience. People who have suffered the sudden death of a loved one or a natural disaster should have an easier time getting help so they do not have to endure the stress and anxiety after the experience..
