  • Essay / Jen Morrison and Debra Rathwell's roles in the...

The entertainment industry is a growing industry with many career opportunities, especially for students who are fast learners in today's world 'today. I chose to study the entertainment industry because I have always had a passion for it. I grew up with music on the radio and if the radio was off, the television was tuned to a show. I know a lot of people listen to music and watch TV all the time, but this industry has so much more to offer. This passion has led me to study specific things in the industry and learn the ins and outs, which helps me find a potential career. There are many people in the industry that I admire and one successful person in particular is Debra Rathwell. Debra Rathwell is the Senior Vice President of AEG Live. Rathwell oversees AEG's active New York office while being a force in national touring. Rathwell has over 30 years of experience in the industry and his dedication inspires me. I know she's well respected in the industry and I think it's impressive that she books an average of 800 shows each year. Being a woman in the music industry is a big challenge, but Rathwell is proving to me and the world that with hard work you can prove yourself. The first step that really launched Rathwell's career came during his final year at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Rathwell was Harvey Glatt's assistant and later worked under the name Bass Clef Entertainment, which partnered on shows with Canada's biggest concerts. That introduced Rathwell to the industry and the rest was like a snowball effect, one job leading to another. Another crucial step Rathwell took in his career was joining Donald Tarlton for 12 years at DKD. With DKD, Rathwell managed a staff ...... middle of paper ...... because I want to leave my options open. After I get a job, I want to dedicate myself to this company, really invest in it, and establish a relationship where I gain something, but the company also gains something from me. My final step is to really make a name for myself, whether it's in Nashville, New York or Los Angela. I want people to recognize me for the things I have accomplished in my life through my determination and perseverance. I don't have any talent for playing instruments or singing, but I know I'm good at business and I really want to prove myself to the world so people hear my name and know my legacy. I don't say this to sound arrogant, but I say it to show confidence because I know I can make an impact on society if I really try. This is my end goal; impact the world to improve it for future generations.
