Essay / Ethical Paralysis of Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda...
This has been proven time and again throughout history with the encounters of various Europeans with the peoples of Africa and the Americas. This does not help these groups learn anything other than these simple stories. This can be observed when considering the Rwandan genocide. When the Belgians were in power, they changed the meaning of what it meant to be Hutu and Tutsi and turned it into something that was just a meaningless title that was an integral part of who these people were. This later led to the Rwandan genocide. Due to the understanding based on only one story, the United Nations, including the UN peacekeepers, could not effectively help the Rwandan people. Their story alone allowed people to die and if you can't learn to engage in complex understanding in order to save lives, when will you ?
