Essay / Human trafficking and the trade in sexual slavery or...
Human trafficking is the trafficking of human beings, usually for the purpose of sexual slavery or forced labor. Sex trafficking, also known as sexual slavery, is defined as the exploitation of human beings generally women and children, within national or international borders, for the purpose of forced sexual relations (soroptomist .org). Sex trafficking occurs all over the world, but it is more common in poor countries. Worldwide, an estimated two and a half million people are victims of trafficking. Forty-three percent of the 2.5 million people are victims of strictly sex trafficking. Of these people, 1.2 million are children. These children are typically trafficked for low- or unpaid forced labor or forced sex labor. The sex trafficking industry brings in approximately thirty-two million dollars per year. Many of the poorest and most unstable countries experience the highest number of sex trafficking incidents. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Thailand, China, Nigeria, Albania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine are among the countries that constitute the most major sources of human trafficking. Every person on this earth deserves the right to live freely and we must all come together to prevent slavery and human trafficking, especially for sexual exploitation. Victims of sex trafficking can be men or women and of any age. There are usually more children and women victims due to high customer demand. Every year, eight hundred thousand women and children are the subject of cross-border trafficking. Many trafficking victims go unnoticed and operate in unmarked brothels located in unsuspecting areas. An unsuspecting area would be a suburban neighborhood. Victims sometimes also...... middle of paper...... of their beliefs. Another organization is HTAP. The sole objective of this organization is to raise awareness in order to put an end to trafficking. The organization achieves this by empowering communities to educate and train individuals, creating informed community partnerships, and supporting research and disseminating information. Both of these organizations are wonderful in my opinion. Sex trafficking needs to stop and the first step to stopping it is making more people aware of it. If people are not informed about sex trafficking, there is no way they can help stop it. We need more organizations like HTAP and Shared Hope to support and rehabilitate victims of sex trafficking. No human being should be enslaved and we, as free human beings, should not settle until we know this industry has been eliminated..
