Essay / Case Study: Social Contract - 736
If Brenda were under the influence of stage 3 “Fairness to others”, she would report the gains because it is fair for everyone and no one should benefit special treatment because of his status. If she is under the influence of step 4 "Law and order", she will follow the law and report the winnings on the tax return. Regarding level 3 which is postconventional, the last two stages fall under there. If Brenda were influenced by Step 5 "Social Contract", it is difficult to say what she would do because she would need to see how her decisions affect everyone. If she were influenced by step 6 of the “Universal Ethical Principles,” she would do what is right. The four-component ethical decision-making model may also play a key role in what Brenda decides to do before meeting with her boss. There is moral sensitivity, moral judgment, moral motivation, and moral character. These elements will explain the individual's behavior or actions based on their level of moral development. Brenda has two options: one is to do what the boss says and she doesn't bring home the win. The second option is for her to report her earnings and tell her boss it's the right thing to do.
