    The World Cup is the most prestigious honor in football. If you win, your team will be talked about for the next four years, until the next World Cup. The World Cup brings together the crème de la crème of 204 countries competing in the best sport in the world. The World Cup is the most exciting tournament to watch and cheer for. The First World Cup In 1930, the first World Cup was held in Uruguay, but at the time the trophy was known as the Jules Rimet Cup. There were no qualifying matches as there were only thirteen teams. It was organized in two rounds. The first round consisting of group matches and the second round consisting of play-offs. The host team, Uruguay, ended up winning the first World Cup. The total attendance for all the matches was 434,500 people.The World Cup Trophies“The trophy was named in honor of Jules Rimet because he was president of the French Football and Football Federation. The trophy itself has a funny history, because during World War II, Ottorino Barassi, an official of the Italian Football Federation, hid it in a shoebox under his bed.
