Case Study Response: Family TherapyIn this case study response, I will examine the case study regarding Rachel and her family, as well as the aspects the least and most useful of this therapy. I will provide a brief assessment of the types of disorders or diagnoses that would be most helpful and also least appropriate for the application of family therapy. I will also include a projection of the types of customers for whom this will be most and least beneficial. Say no to plagiarism. I felt that family therapy is a valuable tool and can help people who are intensely connected to each other. However, I had a problem with the therapist ordering Rachel to be as completely unhappy as possible. I think it's somewhat irresponsible to encourage clients to do this, especially someone like Rachel who has expressed suicidal thoughts in the past. However, the way she handled family therapy with Rachel proved to be successful, but I realize this case is anecdotal, so I would like to see more research-based studies supporting the methods she has used. The Most Helpful Aspect of Family Therapy The case study I observed was how he used many different types of therapies in order to rehabilitate Rachel. Many subsets of therapy were necessary for his successful rehabilitation, for example, who was present at each therapy session. I have also found that family therapy often uses different treatment models and I think the flexibility gives it a positive advantage. The least helpful aspect of family therapy was that I felt like the therapist and group were jumping to too many conclusions too quickly. I don't know if I would be able to conclude that Rachel was trying to become the sunshine her father never had by choosing to become anorexic. However, the methods she applied proved to be extremely effective. Family therapy would be very helpful for individual problems, relationship difficulties, and good for marital conflicts and other family problems. As proven in the case study, this can be beneficial for those with anorexia, but it could also be helpful for those with conduct disorders, schizophrenia, and to reduce relapses and rehospitalizations. It is least helpful for those whose families are weak or dysfunctional. Additionally, it is not helpful for groups that have one or more extremely toxic members, preventing therapists from applying interventions and providing help to make the family more cohesive. It is less useful for people whose families are extremely fragmented or for families who have had a history of severe abuse and/or neglect. It does not appear that this type of therapy excludes on the basis of race, cultural or sexual identification. As long as cultural sensitivity and understanding are involved, there is no reason why family therapists cannot help people from diverse cultural upbringings. It is clear that family therapy is exclusive to individuals in families, so it would not help those who did not have a family or who did not have a family supporting this type of group therapy.
