    The specific situation was that of a beginner pottery wheel throwing class. I was disappointed because the professor has a good reputation and my other teacher friends said they really enjoyed taking his previous classes. I was looking for instructions broken into smaller segments. I was also waiting for a handout containing written instructions on the techniques for the different steps of throwing a pot on the wheel. I had heard that one of his most effective teaching techniques was to demonstrate and then explain to the student a particular technique. I found the opposite in all of the above areas. The instructions were not detailed, he did not even give the sequential order of creating a prize pool and there are very distinct steps. There were no documents and I found him taking on and finishing student projects without clearly describing what he was doing. I asked him where he learned to teach and he said he learned from another potter friend or to reiterate, “I teach the way I was taught.” It was an enriching experience to compare his teaching style with differentiated teaching techniques. This experience reaffirms that differentiated instruction is an effective educational process. Some of the things I will focus on to improve my teaching are breaking down instructions and minimizing my tendency to
