Introduction: Georgia is one of thirty-five states that permits the death penalty. Since 1735, Georgia has maintained the death penalty. The most famous traces of the death penalty have their origins in Georgia. Today, in more modern times, we have changed our methods enormously. In Georgia, the first method of execution was hanging. Fortunately, the last hangings in 1925 would have taken place in public, which was prohibited in court. So they moved them to Columbus, Georgia. Here in Columbus, they could legally execute them. In 1924, Georgia ended the idea of hanging and instead carried out electrocutions.
