  • Essay / Who should judge what is good and what is bad?

    Since there are as many “moralities” as there are people and cultures, who should judge what is good and what is bad? What morality should we follow and why? To answer this question, one must first arrive at a clear understanding of the meaning of good and evil – a subject that has become so subjective and distorted that it is virtually impossible to define clearly. Individuals have come to create their own morality such that what is right for one is not considered right for another and what is wrong for one is not necessarily wrong for another. This is partly natural because I believe we all possess a conscience that can be used to guide our thoughts and actions. However, this awareness often develops over a lifetime of life experiences, shaped by things such as parenting, religious influences, cultural/societal influences, etc. This relativism exists as an undeniable part of humanity.
